History

1970.

The company was founded on 27 November 1970 by the then Council of the Pazin Municipality. Its first name was "Učka" – Road Construction Company and its main office was in Pazin. The co-founders of the company were the Municipalities of Buje, Buzet, Labin, Mali Lošinj, Novigrad, Opatija, Poreč, Pula, Rovinj and Umag which mutually decided to found the company in the Assembly of the then Istrian Community of Municipalities held on 24 November 1970.

1981.

The main task of the company was to provide the design documentation, prepare the model of financing and guarantee other implementation measures for the construction of the road tunnel through the mountain of Učka and the tunnel access road system. This task was successfully accomplished and the Tunnel and access road from Matulji to Lupoglav was opened to traffic on 27 September 1981. Aware of the approaching completion of the Učka Tunnel Construction project, the company "Učka" – Road Construction Company turned to jobs that were not related to Tunnel construction and began providing consulting services - preparation of documentation, complete construction supervision and investment management These were jobs in the design and construction of utility, residential, industrial and tourist facilities, as well as the reconstruction and construction of local roads. Učka was present across Istria, and significant work was done by Učka to build the Motorway from Rupa to Kupjak, including the Rijeka By-Pass.

1993.

Following the efficiently conducted privatisation proceedings, the company operated as a joint-stock company from 1 January 1993 until 1 January 2003, after which the company changed to operating as a limited liability company under the name of Učka-konzalting d.o.o.

1998.

In 1998, the construction of the Istrian Motorway commenced using the concession model. On this project, Učka-konzalting started its co-operation with a renowned global company - Ove Arup & Partners International. This cooperation has continued until today. The Istrian Motorway has been probably the most significant project in which, in all phases stretching from 1998, expert supervision of construction was provided by Učka-konzalting. In addition to this project, new ones were successfully won on very important facilities, such as the Istra Hotel on the island of Sv. Andrija near Rovinj, the Tobacco Factory in Kanfanar, the Town-School Sports Hall in Pazin and others.

2003.

Since 1 January 2003 the company operates as a limited liability company under company name Učka-kontalting Ltd.

2006.

The employees of Učka-konzalting took part in one of the largest industrial construction projects in Istria supervising the construction of the administrative building and TDR tobacco factory in Kanfanar.

2009.

Successful development and good business results enabled us to invest in our own mixed-use complex in Pazin, completed in 2009.

2012.

From 2008 to 2012 Učka-konzalting provided supervision services during the widening of the Istrian Motorway to its full-width from Umag to Pula and Kanfanar to Pazin, including the construction of all toll areas.

2012.

Učka-konzalting joined the project for the construction of the New Passenger Terminal of the Zagreb Airport in 2012, where, this time again in cooperation with Arup, it provided complete expert supervision services, as well as control of the production and installation of airport equipment. The construction was completed in December 2016 and the Airport was opened to traffic on 21 March 2017. Successful development and good business results enabled us to invest in our own mixed –use development in Pazin, which was completed in 2009.

2014.

Since 2014, Učka-konzalting is exclusively owned by our full-time employees.

2018.

The Independent Engineer's Consulting Agreement in connection with the construction of Istrian Motorway – Phase 2B1 was signed on 5 October 2018. This time Učka-konzalting was hired to cover the role of the Independent Engineer and to provide supervising services. The construction of this Phase 2B1 will include the construction of 28 km of the second carriageway with 17 bridges, 11 viaducts and Rest Area Rebri East. The works started in November 2018 and the completion is expected in 36 months.
